People around here mention Mars and Drafts a lot. If it's personal, then there's frankly nothing wrong with text-edit.
For writing, have you looked at the app directory and searched the forum? Lots of suggestions out there already. Best is probably KNFBReader on IOS, actually, or on Windows. Prizmo might be good enough for reading mail, etc., but not for 99% accuracy requirements. For scanning, Fine Reader Pro for Mac is the best, but it's costly and doesn't allow quick review of the text in the app itself. You don't say anything about whether this is professional, for school, or personal.
